-WHAT IS ACUPUNCUTURE?-

A HISTORY OF SUCCESSFUL HEALING

Acupuncture therapy is both an art and a science. Although it has only recently become popular in Canada, acupuncture has a long respected history in the Orient.

An acupuncture treatment combines the painless use of fine needles, heat and Shiatsu into a 30-60 minute session.

The treatment helps to relieve pain and discomfort, to promote proper functioning and to stimulate the body's own natural healing ability.

Traditional Oriental medicine, which includes not only acupuncture but also herbal medicine, massage, dietary therapy and remedial exercises, has evolved over the past 5000 years. Theunique history and philosophy of the Orient have produced an understanding of the way the body and mind work in helth and disease that is slightly different from the conventional Western view.

THE CONCEPT OF THE TREATMENT

Acupuncture treats the whole body with special atention given to your problem area.

An acupuncture therapist is trained to look at your life pattern (symptoms, eating habits, facial colour, etc.) in order to draw a picture of the imbalances. The aim of the treatment is to re-balance the body to promote harmonious functioning once again.

Acupuncture therapy is a very effective therapy for a wide range of conditions. Eastern medicine theory says that chi(qi) enerfy circulates thoroughout the body along meridians or channels. Qi energy keeps the body warm, fights disease and links all parts and functions of the body. When there is not enough qi, or when the flow stafnates, then various symtoms arise. By inserting needles or applying heat or pressure to specific points of the body, the qi is normalized and symptoms disappear.
